Yoga Yurts - Kent

Yoga Yurts is a business, a home and a way of life. We live on a farm in Biggin Hill, North Kent, in a collection of yurts. We decided to live in this way to satisfy a need in us for more nature and a yearning for a connectedness to the land around us. We both grew up in the city and felt that it wasn't our natural home. Creating and sharing space has been a constant theme for us both for many years so in 2005 we decided to open up our space to others and began running yoga days and yoga retreats. Although feedback was great we found that the retreats depleted our energy in a way we couldn't have imagined and therefore we decided to concentrate on one day activities. On Yoga Days we open up our home; we share our space, our yoga and a different way of life with those who come to visit.

Over on the Essex coast, Ann Bishop is putting the finishing touches to a Gypsy Camp that she has been busy recreating for over a year. The two bowtop wagons are genuine articles, carefully restored. Canoe Adventures - Devon
For all ages and ability, why not try guided 12-seat Voyager canoeing offering you excellent fun on the wonderful River Dart in South Devon year round. The youngest crew to date was little Sarah, aged 12 days; the eldest was Mr George, 87.
Canoe Adventures work from and to the slipway beside the friendly Maltsters Arms at Tuckenhay (TQ9 7EH) halfway between Totnes and Dartmouth, at the head of Bow Creek on the west bank of the glorious Dart.
The Voyager canoes, aka Voyageur, are big and strong and easy to use. Each one comes with steersman-guide, and full canoeing equipment is supplied. Everyone is invited to bring picnics, sometimes BBQs, and often we stop across the river at Stoke Gabriel for ice cream. It is ideal for families with children, for people who gently want to try canoeing, for bold adventurers who've done it before, and for everyone who loves the water and an amazingly beautiful place like the Dart.

Yarlington Yurt

The Yarlington Yurt is not only a great place to stay, but the latest stage of an ambitious project that began back in 1782, when Yarlington House was built. George III apparently remarked, as he saw the original building going up on his way from Weymouth to Longleat, that the owner was, "a bold man, to build a house there." But as the trees grew and the gardens were expanded, that boldness proved visionary. To the walled kitchen garden built at the same time as the house, Count and Countess Charles de Salis have added touches of their own such as the ha-ha wall and the sunken garden at the far end of the lawn, pleached lime trees and now their grand yurt. It's a beautifully decorated two pod set-up, in a private spot behind the kitchen garden, looking out onto the gentle Somerset countryside. It comfortably sleeps four in two pods. A bespoke kitchen and bathroom tent and beautiful grounds help complete the ideal family retreat with that little touch of luxury. We think George III would have approved.
