It is so easy to be caught up by the grace and beauty of tipis; one can forget how practical and beautifully engineered they are.

It’s the tent that got me back into camping, and even though we sell far more yurts, when I get a moment to myself, I come quietly back to my beautiful painted lodge for tranquil moments around the fire. Waking up in the morning with the sun streaming in through the open smoke hole, just to lean across and put a few more logs on the fire for a fresh brew, well… it can’t be beaten!

In the evening, when the tipi glows like an enormous lantern and the fragrant wood smoke curls around the tops of the poles as the sun dips below the horizon, spare a thought for the poor unfortunates in their nylon igloos, and be gentle with them as you try to persuade them to leave your snug haven!

 

Albion Canvas has been trading since 1995, but began in 1994 with our first tent – the Tipi! So with over 12 years of experience in the manufacture and use of Tipis, and with over 60 years of combined staff experience you can be confident of a very high quality product.

All our Tipis are made and finished to the highest standards, all stress points have double and triple reinforcement where necessary and all seams are sewn with a French seam for strength and superior water exclusion. Certain areas of the design have been modernised to increase the life of the Tipi but otherwise we stick to a traditional Cheyenne style. Other styles can be produced by request.

The wood used for our Tipi poles is locally sourced and sustainably managed Douglas fir which is peeled, sanded and protected with a double coat of linseed oil.

A one year guarantee on workmanship is given with all our tents.

The canvas is a 393gsm (12oz) cotton canvas, treated with a water repellent, rot inhibitor and fire retardant as standard. Albion Canvas Tipis are the only Tipis supplied with a groundsheet as standard.

We can supply Tipis complete up to 24ft in diameter, larger Tipis we can manufacture the canvas, but poles will need to be sourced locally to you due to the extreme lengths required and the transportation involved.
